It is a time to consider the ways kinship, family and community are at the heart of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and how kindergartens can include the knowledge of local Elders in their programs.  One of the benefits of kindergarten is the contribution to a foundation of lifelong learning that the environment plays, alongside Aboriginal Elders, Koorie families and community, and other community members.  Check out our new [Benefits of Kinder](https://vimeo.com/840658374/9cb39c7638?share=copy) video for Aboriginal community to demonstrate the value of kinder for Koorie kids.  For more information visit Koorie Kids Shine and learn more about NAIDOC Week.  Please contact Fiona Downie ( fiona.downie@education.vic.gov.au ) if you have any queries or would like to discuss Koorie Kids Shine more.  ## Read On [![](https://blogs.ecms.org.au/hs-fs/hubfs/newport_gardens_left.jpg?width=352&name=newport_gardens_left.jpg)](https://blogs.ecms.org.au/blog/newport-gardens-early-years-centre-wins-local-government-prize) ### [Newport Gardens Early Years Centre wins local government prize](https://blogs.ecms.org.au/blog/newport-gardens-early-years-centre-wins-local-government-prize) Newport Gardens Early Years Centre (NGEYC) have been awarded the 2015 LGPro Awards for Excellence...
